Coffee lovers recreate Starbucks specialty drink

                              By: Jessica Volz

Jacksonville, Fla.-- Starbucks coffee lovers have the luxury of brewing a bag of freshly ground beans at home, daily. Do customers have the same privilege of recreating the, oh so popular, hot handcrafted latte from home?

According to Brandon Flynn, a shift manager at a local Starbucks, the answer is yes. Flynn demonstrates the step-by-step process to create the specialty drink with specific details for a complete Starbucks latte how-to --from home.

  1. Ground espresso coffee beans

  2. Expresso machine

  3. Milk of choice

  4. Steamer

  5. Additional flavorings, if desired

A customer can pick up a bag of expresso the next time they stop into a Starbucks or it can be purchased online at Starbucks.com. Starbucks only offers one traditional espresso brew year-round and it's easy to spot, it's in a silver bag, according to Flynn.

An espresso machine has all the components needed for making a latte because it has all the components needed to make the drink. However, Flynn mentions alternatives that work equally as effective, such as a steaming wand. Starbucks, in fact, does sell their "add-in" flavorings to customers by the bottle.

Craig Sutton, former barista, agrees-- duplications of Starbucks hand-crafted beverages is possible. Sutton took on the challenge, from his kitchen, to recreate a latte and document the whole process.
